Rising energy costs hit packagers

Chemical companies, including Dow, are responding to rising natural gas prices by raising polyethylene prices, which in turn has increased the price packaging companies pay for the resin to produce PET containers and film applications. Likewise, rising crude oil prices have caused price increases for polypropylene, material used for yogurt cups and margarine tubs.
