US Airways returns to Chapter 11

US Airways yesterday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time, citing competition from discount airlines and high fuel costs, and said it plans to transform itself into a low-cost carrier. The airline said service would not be interrupted, and it is "committed to reaching new labor agreements consensually," CEO Bruce R. Lakefield said.
