Wi-Fi phones replace pagers and intercoms at Silicon Valley hospital

At Silicon Valley's appropriately high-tech El Camino Hospital, Wi-Fi is extending beyond e-mail to replace pagers and intercoms and to allow doctors and nurses to communicate with each other. Portable phones that resemble walkie-talkies send calls over the Internet instead of phone lines with the technology, which may soon become an alternative to cell phones.
