Report: Jordan strikes $12M deal with Belgian firm for nuclear project

Jordan reportedly aims to construct its first nuclear energy facility and curb dependence on foreign oil via a $12 million deal with Belgium's Tractebel Engineering. Citing a Jordanian government official, a news report said Tractebel will conduct a two-year study to gauge safety and environmental risks at the planned site. Jordan's Nuclear Energy Commission is reviewing project proposals including those from France's Areva, Atomic Energy of Canada and Korea Electric Power.
