Report: Global energy demand could grow 40% by 2030

World energy demand has risen 40% since 1990 and could grow an equivalent amount in the next 20 years, according to Daniel Yergin, chairman of IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates. The shale natural gas boom will be essential to meeting that demand, Yergin argues, especially given the problems facing the offshore-drilling sector in the aftermath of the Gulf of Mexico spill.
