Solutia seeks strategic acquisitions, mulls integration of key products

Solutia is eying an acquisition to complement the company's manufacturing and commercial knowledge, said CEO Jeffry Quinn, adding that "it is a challenge to find opportunities to grow our business that don't degrade what makes Solutia special -- our margin profile." Meanwhile, the specialty-chemicals maker is also considering whether to back-integrate production of ethylene vinyl acetate. The company bought Etimex Solar for more than $300 million in June and may combine EVA-based Etimex encapsulants with its polyvinyl butyral-based encapsulants.
