Amano says Fukushima Daiichi reactors are "essentially stable"

The Fukushima Daiichi reactors are now "essentially stable" and a "cold shutdown" of the units should be accomplished as planned, said Yukiya Amano, the International Atomic Energy Agency's director general. "The plant operator and the Japanese authorities have been working hard to regain full control of the situation and have made steady progress in the past six months," Amano said.
