The best CEOs are "higher-ambition leaders" who aren't content with simply chasing profits, but are also determined to help the broader community, write Nathaniel Foote, Russell Eisenstat, and Tobias Fredberg. Companies such as Standard Chartered Bank, Volvo and Campbell Soup have all used community-based "higher-ambition" initiatives to deliver sustainable results. "It is hard to imagine a more energizing, meaningful way to spend your professional life than to play a central role in building a higher-ambition company," they write.
