Report: Australian teachers' salaries lag

Australian teachers' salaries did not go up in real terms between 2000 and 2009, according to a report on education from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The report also found that experienced secondary-school teachers in Australia are on average paid less than their peers in other countries, but often spend more time in the classroom. The Australian Education Union said the data show a need for a greater financial commitment to education.
