Small-business optimism hits lowest point in more than a year

Optimism among small-business owners fell for the sixth straight month in August, reaching its lowest point since mid-2010, according to the National Federation of Independent Business' latest Small Business Optimism Index. "There is little clarity or certainty. When people are uncertain about the future or fear it, they don't spend or invest, and they chase after protection -- and protection is unlikely to come from the government," said NFIB's Bill Dunkelberg.
