AAR notes increase in carload, intermodal traffic for 2 weeks in a row

Freight carload traffic on U.S. railroads continued to increase in the week ending Sept. 7, up 2.2% versus the year-ago level, while intermodal volume climbed 6.7%, according to the Association of American Railroads. Shipments of motor vehicles and parts, which rose 21.9%, outranked petroleum products as the top gainer among seven of the 10 carload categories that showed increases. Overall U.S. traffic increased 4.2% in the latest week year-on-year, AAR noted.
