A Canadian study in Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology found diabetes patients with blocked coronary arteries who underwent coronary artery bypass graft surgery had a 33% lower mortality rate at five years compared with those who had angioplasty. However, the rate of nonfatal stroke was slightly higher with bypass surgery.
