Calif. lawmakers look to restore tax break voided by court decision

Small businesses in California ended up with unexpected tax liabilities after a court decision overturned a tax break late last year. Lawmakers have tried to fix that problem by passing a pair of bills designed to reinstate the tax break. "The first principle we need to adhere to is the rule of law, and Californians need to have confidence that when they follow California law that they will not be retroactively punished," said state Sen. Ted Lieu, who is responsible for one of the bills.
