Designing a new product is only the first step

Everyone jokes about building a better mousetrap -- but it's easier said than done, writes David Burkus. The U.S. patent office has 4,400 mousetrap patents on file, but only about 20 of those ideas ever made it to market. "Behind all these issued designs is a simple truth: even if you can build a better mousetrap, there is still a lot of work involved in selling the world on your new design," Burkus writes.
