Exposure therapy plus antidepressants may reduce OCD symptoms

Combining exposure therapy with antidepressants was more effective than medication alone in reducing symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder, according to a study in JAMA Psychiatry. The findings suggest "that OCD patients on (antidepressants) with clinically meaningful symptoms should be first offered exposure and ritual prevention therapy to get better still," lead investigator Dr. Helen Blair Simpson said.
