First Wind unit buys Texas wind project

First Wind Texas Holdings, a unit of First Wind Holdings, has signed a deal to acquire the full membership interests in the Route 66 Wind Power project in Texas from Westerly Wind. The project, which has a potential capacity of up to 200 megawatts, would encompass areas of Armstrong and Carson counties, Westerly Wind said. The facility is expected to send its output to areas serviced by the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas through the state's Competitive Renewable Energy Zone program.
