NPD: August saw strong video game software sales

U.S. retail sales of video game products have been in a protracted slump, but August saw game sales increase 23% to $293.4 million compared with a year ago, NPD Group says. Total sales of accessories, hardware and software were up 1% to $521 million from a year earlier, the market-research firm reported. "Due to a greater percentage of sales stemming from newer games at full price and ... higher priced collector's editions, overall software average pricing grew by 25%," NPD's Liam Callahan said.
