Tax exemption for aircraft parts boosts Maine's aviation industry

In 2011, the Maine Legislature changed the state's tax policy to exempt aircraft parts from its 5% sales tax. That exemption has given a boost to businesses like Maine Aviation. The service company's hangar at Portland International Jetport is crowded with out-of-area aircraft. "Clearly, we're in growth mode, and this [tax exemption] is certainly making that possible," said Allyn Caruso, president and CEO of Maine Aviation.
