Charlotte-Mecklenburg district won't lay off teachers

In a reversal of a previous announcement, Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) school officials say no teachers will be laid off as a result of 169 job cuts in the 2005-06 budget approved yesterday. Most of the cuts are teacher assistant positions and the final budget also slashed to a large extent $17.6 million in funding approved last spring for recruitment and bonuses.
