Cost of restoring Gulf Coast school districts will be huge

Louisiana school officials estimate they'll need $2.8 billion in federal aid to cover New Orleans area districts' operating costs this year, while Mississippi's state schools chief will say only that the cost of fixing schools in his state will be "very, very big." While districts nationwide have enrolled evacuated students fairly smoothly, many displaced families are still in flux as they search for long-term residences.
