98 billboards coming down in L.A.

Outdoor advertising firms Clear Channel Outdoor and CBS Outdoor have agreed to a settlement with the city of Los Angeles over billboard placement, in which each company will take down 49 billboards from as-yet unspecified locations and remove any billboards erected after 1999 that lack required city permits. The arrangement settles a long-running lawsuit arising from a 2002 city law that regulates "off-site" billboards, which advertise products and services not available on the premises where the billboard resides.
