California unveils ambitious green energy plan

California unveiled the most ambitious green energy plan in the U.S., which calls for utilities to obtain one third of their energy from renewable sources by 2020. The 33% goal would serve the purpose of lowering the state's greenhouse-gas emissions by 29%, a requirement of legislation signed into law by Gov. Schwarzenegger in 2006. The largest obstacle could be building a transmission network across the state to transport the energy.
