California lawmakers approve sweeping renewable-energy measures

Lawmakers in California approved two bills Saturday that would require that at least a third of the power sold by state utilities by 2020 be from renewable sources such as wind and solar power. The bills require approval from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a strong advocate of renewable energy who has also been under pressure from power plant developers to veto the plan.
