Study uncovers key gene that triggers disease-fighting cells

British researchers discovered that the E4bp4 gene stimulates stem cells in blood to turn into "natural killer" immune cells that attack diseases. The finding could lead to new methods that could trigger the body's production of the NK cells and potentially open the way to eliminate cancer.
