Franchises with paid employees make up 10.5% of U.S. businesses, according to the Economic Census Franchise Report. The report also notes franchise businesses employ 7.9 million workers and account for sales of nearly $1.3 trillion. "We are pleased that the U.S. government has recognized franchising as a significant business model," IFA's Alisa Harrison said. "Census officials told us they received a very good response to their franchise questions and so we feel we have a fairly accurate snapshot of franchises with paid employees."
