Daily Economic Indicator: Retail sales are up again

Retail sales in the U.S. gained in August for the second straight month, indicating that the economic recovery is continuing. Consumer spending increased 0.4% last month after a 0.3% increase in July, according to figures from the Commerce Department. Not including sales of automobiles, retail sales increased 0.6%, exceeding the median forecast of economists.
