Feds to run tests on cement from BP's blown-out Gulf well

The Department of Justice seeks to study the cement that was used in BP's damaged Gulf of Mexico well in an effort to shed light on the company's claims that "faulty cement" caused the disaster. BP's internal report released last week said Halliburton's cement-nitrogen mixture, which was injected into the base of the well, was "likely unstable," and the oilfield services company failed to perform proper testing to ensure the cement was strong enough. "The Department of Justice is presently working with Halliburton to secure cement evidence from the well," said the federal oil-spill commission.
