Gerard: Increasing oil-inspection fees is inappropriate

The federal government's proposal to significantly raise offshore-oil inspection fees could threaten jobs, said Jack Gerard, president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute. He said the oil and natural gas industry acknowledges the need for improvements in the aftermath of the Gulf of Mexico spill, but the increase is inappropriate, particularly during an economic downturn. "This is not the time to go back and impose additional costs on industry," he added.
