N.Y. gas drillers would conserve water compared with golf courses, says group

Companies drilling for shale natural gas in New York would consume less water than golf courses do, according to the American Petroleum Institute. The Environmental Protection Agency has raised concerns about the volume of water used in such activities and said it would study the integrity of some wells. Water consumption for gas activities in the state could reach 28 million gallons a day, as opposed to golf courses, which use 58 million gallons, said Cathy Landry, a spokesperson for API.
