Gulf drilling recovers one year after oil spill, moratorium

Energy companies are ramping up drilling in the Gulf of Mexico more than one year after the BP oil spill and the subsequent moratorium on offshore drilling, observers say. There are 23 active rigs in the Gulf in water deeper than 3,000 feet, federal statistics show, the same amount as two years ago. A series of large deepwater discoveries in the region this year drove that growth.
