Heart risk persists despite intense management in diabetes study

Intensive heart disease management does not reduce the risk of cardiovascular events compared with standard care in patients with screen-detected type 2 diabetes, according to a subanalysis of a randomized study of European patients. The conclusions were consistent with the main findings of ADDITION-Europe that early detection and treatment were more important than intensive treatment.
