Lawmakers criticize loan to solar firm that was near collapse

The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations questioned the Obama administration's decision to pour taxpayers' money into solar-panel manufacturer Solyndra after the company said it was on the verge of collapse. Energy Department reviewers warned internally that liquidating Solyndra would be cheaper than trying to save it.
