GMA comments on FDA's good manufacturing processes

09/15/2004

The Grocery Manufacturers of America has weighed in on revisions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's good manufacturing processes, urging the agency to improve food safety by focusing on four areas, including allergen control, sanitation practices, employee training and environmental control. "While the existing CGMP's have worked well to reduce the incidence of food-borne illnesses significantly over the past 20 years, GMA fully concurs with the FDA's assessment that the CGMP's must be updated to incorporate the latest science and industry best practices," said Mark Nelson, GMA's vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs.
