Maryland students improve on statewide high school exams

Maryland students posted solid gains on the new High School Assessments, although large numbers of students continued to fail the state exams. Officials welcomed the higher scores, but noted with concern that the minority gap for blacks and Hispanic students persisted on the tests, which will become a graduation requirement in 2009.
