Safeway to lead in renewable energy consumption

Safeway Inc. will purchase wind-generated energy to power its 270 fuel stations nationwide, 15 San Francisco-area stores and its corporate headquarters, making it California's largest buyer of renewable energy. The company is working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partner program, which is geared toward increasing demand for renewable energy sources.
