Alaska Airlines to reduce capacity by 8% this winter

High fuel prices and economic woes have prompted Alaska Airlines to decide to reduce capacity and cut as many as 1,000 jobs this winter. The carrier plans to cancel flights that are the least in demand and cut back on other services as well, including seasonal service on three routes to Mexico. Airline executives said the moves were necessary due to "the one-two punch of record oil prices and a softening economy, on top of increased competition."
