CMS limits insurers' marketing activities for Medicare

The CMS announced that insurers are no longer allowed to place unsolicited calls or provide free meals when selling Medicare health insurance or prescription-drug coverage. Door-to-door solicitations and sales pitches in health care facilities also were banned. The changes are aimed at protecting Medicare beneficiaries "from deceptive or high-pressure marketing tactics," acting CMS Administrator Kerry Weems said.
