Verizon Wireless opens up with M2M

Machine-to-machine communication lies at the heart of much of Verizon Wireless' new open-network strategy, at least initially; the first pair of certified devices involve a prisoner-tracking ankle bracelet and a service that monitors storage tanks, according to a company executive. "The promise of machine talking to machine was always there, but the question for vendors was 'what network' and how to get on it quickly and cheaply," said Verizon Wireless Vice President Tony Lewis.
