ACC: Plastics belong in the recycling bin

Environmentalists are urging officials in San Jose, Calif., to vote for a proposal to ban paper and plastic bags in the city, citing a recent study that found thousands of plastic bags in Bay Area waterways that were listed on the top 10 "Bay Trash Hot Spots" of 2009. Plastics industry representatives say those calling for the ban are misguided. "Plastics don't belong in the oceans or the watersheds, they belong in the recycling bin," said Keith Christman, an American Chemistry Council senior director.
