Air Canada last week filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Transportation Department, seeking to block enforcement of a rule that bars season-long charter contracts for professional hockey teams. The airline claims that the U.S. policy "is wreaking havoc on the hockey season." At issue is whether Air Canada's Jetz charter unit can make multiple stops in the U.S. for back-to-back games, despite laws that prohibit foreign operators from picking up passengers for flights between U.S. cities. A hearing on this issue was to take place today.
