Fed expected to continue buying mortgage-linked securities

Although officials at the Federal Reserve will likely discuss plans for winding down purchases of mortgage-linked securities at their meeting next week, the central bank is expected to continue buying the instruments for a while. A small minority of Fed policymakers suggested suspending the program before it reaches its supposed $200 billion in debt from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and $1.25 trillion in mortgage-backed securities.
