Oberstar: Transportation bill would boost infrastructure investment

The proposed Surface Transportation Authorization Act of 2009 would boost investment in U.S. bridges, transit and highways and create or sustain 6 million jobs, writes Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Oberstar says the legislation would address congestion that costs businesses $87 billion each year. Oberstar also writes that extending the current system of transportation funding would delay "critical reforms and difficult choices that must be made now."
