Restaurateur shifts from fine dining to bike-friendly

Madison, Wis., restaurant owner Chris Berge plans to close down his fine-dining Restaurant Magnus on Jan. 2 and reopen as a more casual bike-themed eatery dubbed Velo Bahn. Business at Magnus took a big hit during the recession, as consumers cut back on upscale evenings out. That fact, along with the prospect of upcoming construction that will limit auto access to his location, spurred him to make the change, says Berge, an avid bicyclist who hopes to start a "bike restaurant movement" in the city.
