Studies: Statins have potential to protect against infections

Results of several studies suggest that statins, drugs designed to fight cardiovascular disease, also can protect against infections. One of the studies found a lower mortality rate among organ transplant patients on statins who developed blood infections. Researchers said there is a need to conduct more studies on the use of statins for infections.
