Fund to support L.A. public schools is created

Los Angeles superintendent John Deasy is collaborating with Hollywood philanthropist Megan Chernin to raise $200 million over the next five years for the city's public schools. Money raised through the new Los Angeles Fund for Public Education could be used to support districtwide initiatives, including a training program for school principals, and would not be controlled directly by the school board.
