GAO: Not enough data collected on antibiotic use in food animals

A Government Accountability Office report says that federal officials are missing the mark when it comes to tracking and monitoring the use of antibiotics in food animals. The report, commissioned by Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., noted that though FDA and USDA keep some records on what antibiotics are sold, not enough data are collected to assess whether these drugs could be implicated in human antibiotic resistance.
