Health groups hesitant to move patient data into the cloud

Some health care groups are starting to adopt cloud computing as a means to run administrative and business solutions, but they remain reluctant to use the technology for patient records and clinical systems. Because of the risks involved, including penalties that come with potential HIPAA violations, Springfield Clinic in Illinois will do "due diligence on SaaS" before migrating EMRs and other health IT tools into the cloud, Chief Information Officer Jim Hewitt said.
