SEC says it is not overstepping into fracking regulations

The Securities and Exchange Commission is not trying to limit the hydraulic fracturing activities of natural gas drilling firms, said SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro at a House Financial Services Committee hearing. "We are not regulating fracking in any way," Schapiro said, adding that SEC is only trying to make sure that drilling companies are not misleading investors by overstating the output of their wells.
