Do upstream companies favor petroleum engineers over chemEs?

Chemical engineers have long been recruited by oil and natural gas companies, but with increased demand for petroleum engineers, that may be changing, according to some industry experts. "Experienced petroleum engineers are becoming more desirable than comparable mechanical and chemical engineers in the upstream oil and gas industry," said Bill Bradshaw, the president of Affinity Management Group. "This is due to their specialized training, experience and exposure to specific new technology."
