Dominion Virginia urged to follow through on wind-power commitment

Despite its public declarations of support for wind power, Dominion Virginia Power is not likely to develop a utility-scale wind farm in an offshore area off the coast of Virginia Beach, Va., unless offshore wind costs go down, writes columnist Robert McCartney. Instead, Dominion, which won the right to develop the offshore wind zone for $1.6 million, is more likely to expand its use of natural gas, McCartney said. "Actions speak louder than words. It should show a timeline for getting steel in the water," said Jim Lanard, president of the Offshore Wind Development Coalition.
